I was weirdly excited about this particular one, too, perhaps because I briefly visited the campus once and LOVED the main academic building. (If you know which job I'm talking about, you may know which building I mean--it's highly conspicuous.) Also I think I was just flattered because they rejected a whole bunch of people and not me. Eh. I'll recover.... And I really can't complain, anyway.
Heu, I'm sorry to hear that cool job canceled its search. It's probably only one of the many cancellations to come between now and the end of December.
The future does not look bright for the over-educated who wish to work with their minds, and not with their hands.
That's the job that I got rejected by in the first round (which you probably figured out). And yeah, it *was* a cool job and I, too, was very excited about it (until I got rejected). And I totally know what building you're talking about -- what's not to love?
Anyway, although the cancellation assuages my hurt feelings about being rejected, I'm now bummed that someone cool like you won't get it! Darn!
They did say that they haven't lost the line and hope to post the job again next year--so here's hoping. Thanks, Dr. V! And Ortho, thanks? maybe? Hm....
Yeah, I saw that yesterday and thought of you - and like Dr. V., I was kinda feeling better about my having been rejected from that search, but then thought, "D'oh! That was HM's job!!!"

Gah. I'm sorry to hear this. A big one in my field (one of two R1s) just got canceled last week.
The desperation at MLA & AHA is going to be thicker than usual. I'm going to be hosting a commiseration session in my room.

At least you got to the extra materials phase, although having the job canceled is disappointing.
